A few days ago my charger on my laptop decided to randomly
quit working. While I am a fan of Apple laptops, I am much less of their
fickle, expensive chargers. I spent awhile freaking out and trying to text all
my tech people back home who basically told me that I had to go get a new one.
My Dad was kind enough to call Apple and get it all set up so that they would
call me from the UK. The British guy on the phone was very nice and helpful and
sent me the address to the nearest Apple retailer that supposedly could help me
with my charger.
I proceeded to walk to the store, about 15 minutes away and
in what I later found out was the ‘bad’ neighborhood of Florence. They
proceeded to tell me that they needed “One Week” because it had to be sent to
the lab, then apple, than back to the lab and the store. I usually pride myself
on how I am gracious and polite to everyone even in stressful situations but
standing at the counter staring at the charger I needed behind the lady telling
me I had to wait a week sorely tested my patience. Having HW due, midterm exams
coming up, and a paper due I realized just how much I rely on my laptop. I
finally ended up leaving the store frustrated and told that I would have to
travel to a true Apple Store an hour away by bus if I wanted to get it sooner.
Confession, I’ve never really rode on a public bus before
without someone else, let alone know how to buy a ticket, find the stops and what
bus I was actually supposed to get on. My roommates had decided to come with
me, as they wanted to shop at the mall.
After some frustration and a little bit of speed walking we ended up on
the right bus and eventually at the mall. It’s called Gigli and is described as
an American style mall with Italian shops.
Beautiful view and weather for the trip there!
The Apple store and the Geniuses were very helpful (and
thankfully spoke English) so I soon had switched out the useless charger and
had a working one!
We then proceeded to wander the mall for a while. I enjoyed the experience but the roommates were a little disappointed with the store selection.

Hurray for a happy ending!
